Hydrogen for Development (H4D) are pleased to share a special edition of the Hydrogen for Development Partnership (H4D) newsletter featuring the activities co-hosted with the Government of the Netherlands on May 19–22, 2026. The edition covers the H4D Partners Meeting and Stakeholders Forum, as well as the Finance Forum held alongside the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam and The Hague.
Bringing together approximately 60 institutions and representatives from more than 15 countries, these engagements generated practical lessons for advancing World Bank Group operations involving clean hydrogen and its derivatives, including green ammonia, fertilizers, hydrogen-based iron and steel, methanol, and sustainable fuels.
The special edition highlights:
- Pathways to bankability, including strategies to address offtake, technology, infrastructure, policy, and financing risks through improved risk allocation and targeted financial instruments.
- Market development for hydrogen derivatives, with a focus on demand aggregation, industrial decarbonization, and opportunities for EMDCs to capture more value across the ammonia, fertilizer, steel, methanol, and sustainable-fuels value chains.
- Enabling policy and regulatory frameworks, covering certification, carbon-intensity accounting, permitting, safety, demand incentives, and alignment with international market-access requirements.
- Shared infrastructure and industrial hubs, including the planning and financing of renewable power, transmission, water, storage, transport, and port infrastructure around credible anchor demand.
- From partnerships to country operations, demonstrating how collaboration among governments, development finance institutions, industry, and knowledge partners can strengthen technical assistance, project preparation, risk mitigation, and investment mobilization—including through the 10 GW Lighthouse Initiative.
