The war in the Middle East had some dramatic short term effects, e.g. with another energy crisis in different parts of the world or severe supply chain disruptions.
For the energy transformation, the business case has just become much better due to the rise and, more importantly, volatility of fossil fuel prices.
But on top of that, new topics are in focus now, bringing in crucial factors on top.
The question e.g. is now:
- Will I have enough energy?
- What is the back up scenario in the next crisis?
- How well diversified is my supply?
So the question is now not so much any more about the price, it is about diversification, resilience and security of supply. All of which will have a certain value in the future.
The multi technology and diversification of RE offer unique opportunities in this respect and once the dust of the many emergencies settle, we expect significant structural shifts, or if you will an acceleration of major shifts already ongoing.
We also expect the topic of energy efficiency becoming of much more interest, including all aspects of the circular economy.
Last, a rethink of infrastructure and supply routes, where we observe for example an expansion of the Abu Dhabi Fujairah pipeline in record speed, or the new UAE port infrastructure initiative in the Gulf of Oman.
The time to be in energy transformation could not be more exciting!
We are looking forward to discussing many opportunities at our 16th Dii Desert Energy Leadership Summit, from 29th September until 1st October in Istanbul.
